Faces of CAPES Week

CAPES WEEK: Opening Exhibit

For the first time since its conception 20 years ago, the UP Career Assistance Program for Engineering Students celebrated CAPES Week from July 18 – 23, 2011. To formally launch the celebration, an opening event for the weeklong exhibit set-up at Melchor Hall’s 2nd floor lobby was held last July 19, 2011.

The program was hosted by Ms. Pia Ortiz and Mr. Ian Yap, both UP CAPES members, and consisted of a few talks starting with a warm welcome from Dr. Rhodora Gonzalez, Associate Dean for Institutional Linkages.

In her speech, she commended UP CAPES’ dedication to serving the College of Engineering and wished them luck in their activities for the year.

Ms. Ilyana Endaya, Nestle’s Recruitment Account Executive, also shared a few words, saying that “Nestle believes in the UP Talent”. On the other hand, UP CAPES also believes that in partnering with Nestle Philippines this goal of offering better service in the engineering student community will be made possible.

Indeed, with their help, CAPES has lined up career oriented events which endeavors to build up and prepare students for the industry as discussed next by Ms. Maria Katrina Guevarra, UP CAPES President. These events include career talks, seminars and the annual job fair which will be held on January 9 – 30 this schoolyear.

A special talk was also delivered by the first President of UP CAPES, Ms. Alma Kort.

Finally, the exhibit was formally opened by a ribbon-cutting event by Ms. Guevarra, Ms. Endaya and Ms. Gonzalez.

The opening gathered UP CAPES members as well as students from the College of Engineering. They were able to participate in CAPES’ and Nestle’s Happy Hour, a dice rolling game where participants had the chance to win gift packs from Nestle. They also participated in a survey and enjoyed the free cupcakes offered after the ribbon-cutting.

CAPES WEEK: Happy Hour

Throughout CAPES Week, at 11:30am-1:00pm, students came to the exhibit to roll the dice and get the chance to win exciting prizes.
