UP CAPES First General Assembly and Sem-Starter
Kicking off September was the First General Assembly of UP CAPES, held last September 4, 2024. The assembly gathered members and UPD Engineering students to discuss the strategic goals and direction for the academic year.
Attendees engaged in discussions about the goals of UP CAPES and what they can expect in the upcoming months, especially since the preparation for CAPES Week 2024 will start in the first half of September. The assembly served as a platform for both new and returning affiliates to connect and align on the organization's mission. This assembly marks an important step in engineering the involvement of students in shaping the future of UP CAPES, setting the tone for an excellent academic year ahead.
To commemorate the success of the Taiwan Semiconductor 2024 event and the Jobfair and Mixer 2024 from the previous academic year, UP CAPES hosted a vibrant gathering known as Sem Starter last September 13, 2024. The event took place at VLugaw Sportsbar on Maginhawa Street, Quezon City, running from 7 PM to 12 AM.
This sem starter provided an excellent atmosphere for members to unwind and connect after a busy academic year. Members got to enjoy lively conversations with other associates (and from past UP CAPES members) from different engineering programs, shared experiences from past events, and forged new friendships within the UP CAPES community. This gathering not only celebrated previous achievements but also set the stage for future collaborations and initiatives among members.

Taiwan Semiconductor Fair 2024
The 2024 Taiwan Semiconductor Job and Study Fair successfully took place in two phases, beginning with an online seminar on August 14, 2024, which attracted over 280 attendees, followed by a face-to-face event on September 10, 2024, at Atencio-Libunao Hall in Diliman, Quezon City, where 78 participants engaged directly with industry leaders.
The fair provided a platform for fresh graduates and graduating students to explore career and educational opportunities in Taiwan's thriving semiconductor sector. The online seminar featured insights from industry professionals and discussions on job prospects, while the in-person event allowed attendees to connect directly with representatives from leading semiconductor corporations and esteemed universities.
The fair provided a unique platform for participants to engage directly with leading corporations in the semiconductor industry, including United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), Ardentec, Powertech Technology Inc. (PTI), Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd., and ASE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. In addition to corporate representatives, esteemed universities such as National Taiwan University (NTU), National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) were present, showcasing their academic programs and research opportunities.
During the event, attendees had the chance to participate in career talks and individual interviews, facilitating meaningful connections with potential employers. The fair's structure allowed fresh graduates and graduating students to gain insights into the semiconductor industry while exploring job and study opportunities in Taiwan.
Sofia Arianne Ngo, Director for External Operations under Flaships, commented on the event's success by stating, “Working with Taiwan Semiconductor and the events coordinator, PETCO, to organize a job and study fair was a unique and rewarding experience. Our teams worked together seamlessly, ensuring that every detail—from company engagements to candidate experiences—was executed smoothly. Our commitment to tailor the event to meet the needs of both employers and job seekers created an environment full of opportunity and growth. This collaboration was key to creating meaningful experiences for everyone involved and establishing this partnership as a cornerstone in bridging opportunities across borders.”
