Interviews can make-or-break applications. For the best results, it's better to know the general parts of an interview so that you can prepare.

Introduction

The introduction sets the tone for the entire interview, making it your first chance to leave a strong impression. A clean appearance, confident posture, and positive attitude can go a long way.

Nonverbal communication is key. Body language matters just as much as words. Stand tall, maintain eye contact, and greet your interviewer with confidence.

Small talk helps ease nerves and build rapport. Interviewers often initiate it, so try to respond and have some fun. Avoid controversial topics and focus on creating a comfortable atmosphere; It helps create a positive impression on the interviewer and boosts your confidence while speaking.

The interviewer will outline the process and purpose of the interview. If you have any questions, this is a good time to ask, but don’t worry—you can always bring them up later if needed.

Presentation

This is the bulk of the interview, so stay focused and listen attentively. Give clear and relevant answers, and don’t hesitate to ask for clarification if needed!

If you think about it, an interview is just a formal conversation. The general flow of the conversation would be from broad topics (interests? education?) to specific topics (reason for applying?). Highlight three (3) to five (5) key achievements, and research the company beforehand to make a strong impression.

This is the best part to demonstrate your technical know-how and past work experiences. When giving answers, always try to keep it concise; even better to provide concrete examples.

The final stretch of the interview! This is where you will make your final impression; leave a good impression that will last.

Confirm the contact details and the next steps in the hiring process. For in-person interviews, ask for a business card and end with a firm handshake while maintaining eye contact. One important thing to do is to always give thanks to show appreciation to the interviewer.

During the closing parts of the interview, the interviewers usually gives an expected date on when they will inform you of their decision. If you don’t hear back, send a polite follow-up email.
